Couponing for the Community 2012 and How You Can Help. It's so Simple!

The official 2012 week is over, but you can still coupon for the community all year long!
My main goal here at Changing the World Pebble by Pebble is to spread awareness of various causes, help individuals learn how to save money and resources, and inspire others to use what they have to help those in need.

I was very fortunate to grow up with my grandmother. And although we were what you would consider poor, she always made sure she took care of everyone she came across. She said as long as you have a roof over your head, food to eat and clothes to wear, you are much better off than a lot of others. She always found ways to help here and there with what little she had. I am so lucky to have had a Granny that taught me the joy in helping others and that you don't have to have much to do it.

It has been my life long goal to help every single person that needs it. Obviously no one person can help the entire world which is why I began sharing with others how to help for very little or even nothing at all.

Right now bloggers, like myself, are teaming up for Couponing for the Community 2012. It is a collaborative effort to promote various ways to help others by using couponing and deal finding skills. Our goal is to get as many FREE or cheap items available and donate them to various places, such as homeless shelters, crisis pregnancy centers, food banks, animal shelters or even people in our communities.

C4C is a nation-wide event combining the power of couponing and social media to GIVE BIG during the week of May 6-12, 2012.

You can join in by going to the Couponing for the Community 2012 facebook page  and clicking "like". And if you haven't done so yet, "like" Changing the World Pebble by Pebble on facebook too.

We all will be posting ways to gain FREE or nearly FREE products that you can compile and donate May 6-12, 2012. You can even tally up your items and share your amounts on the Couponing for the Community 2012 facebook page, so that they can see how many people were helped!

To get even more tips and deals, consider following some of my favorite deal finding bloggers. A list can be found HERE.

For ideas on where to take your items or to find a food bank or pregnancy center near you, Click HERE.

Food items can also be easily donated on Saturday, May 12, 2012, Stamp Out Hunger Day by leaving a bag of non-perishable food items by your mailbox. To learn more, click HERE.

Why I have Ads on My Page. And How They Can Help Others.

Ever noticed the ads on my page. Ever wonder if I put them there and what they're for?

Well the answer is I have placed all the ads on my page myself. They allow the blog to generate income that I can turn around and donate! It takes a LOT to earn anything from the ads, so it may take some time. When I have earned enough for a cash out, I will add a survey on the blog, so that you, the readers, can vote on which charities or families to donate the money too.

All of the ads are safe and approved by me, so don't hesitate to check any of them out when you see them. It's against the rules to tell you how to generate funds and which of the ads do that(some don't, they're just to promote things I like). So just use the site naturally.

Enjoy perusing the blog!

Did You Know You Can Order Boxes from Operation Christmas Child to Fill?

Last year I had this crazy idea of filling 100 Operation Christmas Child boxes. I gathered items all year long and was happy to have enough items, but where on Earth was I going to get the shoe boxes? I called a few shoe stores only to learn that they either wouldn't take the time to save the ones they had or that they had already promised them to a church that was packing boxes. At first I thought I might have to give up and only pack a few and try to find or buy shoe boxes next year.
Then I learned that you can buy OCC shoe boxes to fill!!!!!!
The boxes come in quantities of 100 and are shipped right to your door.
They are flat and you fold them to assemble them.
The cost is based on your zip code for shipping costs. (Mine was only $35.00)

Even if you don't need 100 boxes personally, perhaps you could get them and give out extras to friends, family and neighbors to fill.

I will note that I found the boxes held up better when we applied tape to both ends where the folds are. This is also mostly because we really stuffed them!

Find Out if You Have Unclaimed Money Out There!!!!

Did you know that if companies or the government owe you money and they can't get it to you, the government holds onto it until its claimed? It could be taxes you forgot to claim, a refund from a Dr. office, all sorts of stuff!!!!

So, want to see if you have money waiting for you to claim? Just Click HERE to get started! http://www.unclaimed.org/

This is what the NAUPA says:

What is Unclaimed Property

Fast Facts About Unclaimed Property
  • Every U.S. state, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands - and Quebec, British Columbia and Alberta in Canada have unclaimed property programs that actively find owners of lost and forgotten assets.
  • Unclaimed property laws have been around since at least the 1940s, but have become much broader and more enforced in the last 15 years. Unclaimed property is one of the original consumer protection programs.
  • $1.754 billion returned to the rightful owners in Fiscal Year 2006 from 1.929 million accounts
  • Total of at least $32.877 billion is currently being safeguarded by state treasurers and other agencies for 117 million accounts.
  • Claims can be made into perpetuity in most cases - even by heirs.

Clearanced Easter Items Make Great Operation Christmas Child Items!!!!! Learn how to get a LOT for very little $!

Now that Easter is over, stores will be marking their Easter items down by 50-90% OFF!!!!
This will give you an opportunity to stock up for next Easter saving you money to use elsewhere.
I also like to start my Operation Christmas Child Boxes stockpile.
The best items to look for are:

  • non-chocolate hard candies such as lollipops, jolly ranchers, sweet tarts, etc.
  • Stuffed Animals (smaller ones work better for OCC boxes to allow for other items in the box, but bigger ones can go to Toys for Tots)
  • Baby dolls
  • Toys (keep in mind no war related or weapon toys for OCC)
  • Bubbles (for your own use. Not allowed for OCC)
  • Puzzles
  • Games
  • Stickers
  • Cups
  • Plastic eggs
  • Easter baskets for your own use next year
  • Play jewelry
  • Arts and craft items
  • School supplies
  • Toiletry items such as tooth brushes, tooth paste, combs, etc.

Basically anything that won't go bad in a year(if for you) or about 7-8 months (for OCC).

Here's where to look:

  • Walgreens
  • Right Aid
  • CVS
  • Target
  • Walmart
  • Kmart
  • Meijer
  • Your local grocery store

Keep in mind the longer you wait, the bigger the discount!!! Most start out at 50% off and within a couple days it will be 75% off. Wait just a tad more and it will be 90% off!!!! If their isn't much stock, you should grab it if you want, however if they have a TON, it should be safe to wait a couple days to see if the discount goes up.

Some other things to look out for are the big pre-made baskets filled with toys, art, sports, etc. themed items. You can usually get these from Walmart and Kmart at 90% off. Just take everything out and separate candy from other items. It's a good way to get a variety of items. (I've even saved them to use as stocking stuffers!)

Happy Shopping. Let me know if you find some awesome deals!
